At Lake Vättern, near Gränna, is Brahehus, a pleasure castle built by Per Brahe intended to be a widow's seat for his wife who died before the castle was completed in 1651. The castle was destroyed in a fire in 1708 and today it is one of Sweden's most visited ancient monuments.
